Bill Bailey Alcohol Warning
A new government alcohol awareness campaign will feature comedian Bill Bailey to encourage parents to speak to their children about the dangers of alcohol.
The “Why let drink decide?” campaign targets alcohol related issues such as poor school performance, teen pregnancies and road accidents which can occur as a result of one too many.
Other well known comedians such as Russell Kane, Josie Long and Jo Brand will also back the campaign.
Bill Bailey said : “Comedy is a great way to get information across and if people are laughing and enjoying it, you can slip messages or something more serious in under the radar and I think it has more of an impact. For this campaign, we filmed a scene as if I’m performing in a club. When you watch it you think that you’re in one scenario, then it pulls back to reveal something else. I like the way it plays with your perception.”

Supermarket Alcohol Petition
A new petition on the website of 10 Downing Street has been launched asking for a ban on supermarkets selling alcohol.
Club and Bar owner Gary Hunt, of Brook Group in Yorkshire has launched the bid to raise awareness of the various issues surrounding cheap alcohol when made available in UK supermarkets.
Mr. Hunt told The Publican : “I support minimum pricing, but I am not sure it is radical enough. The supermarkets probably won’t bat an eyelid at my campaign because they are too powerful but at least I feel that I am doing something. People are pre-loading and coming in later and later. They are already drunk when they get here and it just seems to be getting worse and worse.”
“Obviously it is extremely unlikely that the government will ban supermarkets selling alcohol but this petition is about raising the profile of a very serious problem and putting pressure on the government to put in additional measures, over and above minimum pricing, to draw back the bulk purchasing of alcohol through irresponsible supermarket sales.”
